まで (made) - till, to

人間は食べ物がなくても４０日まで生きられるが、水がないと７日間しか生きられない。
Human beings can live up to 40 days without food, but no more than 7
without water.  

私は東京から九州まで飛行機で行った。
I took an airplane from Tokyo to Kyushu.  

おまけに雨まで降っていた。
To top things off it was even raining.  

私は昼までに手紙を書き終えた。
I finished writing the letter by noon.  

１０時まで起きてた。
I stayed up till 10pm.  

そこまで言えるのかなあ.
I wonder if you can go that far in talking about it.  

１０時までに帰らなくっちゃ。
I should get back by 10pm at the latest.

The 'to' indicated by made can be time like (40 days) space like (Kyushu)
or more metaphorical ([lit: up to raining]) (contributor: Amatuka)

Note there is some difference between までに and まで.  
まで : 'I stayed up till 10pm' 
１０時まで起きてた。
[You actually went to bed at 10pm]
までに : 'I had to get back by 10pm' 
１０時までに帰らなくっちゃ
[You could come back earlier, but not later]

In the first example, lyou don't even need まで or 間. I added the last

Do they ever say 'までは'?
As in,
'３時までは、来ないでください。'　for 'Please don't come
until 3.'

Or would simple '３時まで' suffice?

3時まで is sufficient.
3時までは is used to emphasis. Please don't dare come to the meeting
room until 3 as we are having an interview. (contributor: Miki)

Examples 840 and 2906 are actually examples of 'までに”('by') which
doesn't have an entry in jgram but it should... (contributor: Drew)

Kevin, Yes, Konaide is the correct conjugation.
Further, I believe Madeno is used when modifying a noun like if you used
Made no in example 838 it would translate as: 'I took the plane that goes
from Tokyo to Kyushuu' (pretty sure anyway) (contributor: emilyjuno)
