文法 : Grammar a Day - Level 2 [ に先立って; に先立つ (nisakidatte; nisakidatsu) ]

に先立って; に先立つ (nisakidatte; nisakidatsu) - before;
preceeding; prior to

--- Notes ---
this is quite formal, so 'preceeding' might be the best translation.
Otherwise 前に (maeni) is more casual.

先立つ(さきだつ)is the dictionary form, as in one of the
examples below.

*This grammar can be used as a sort of conjunction (に先立って;
に先立ち), or in front of another noun (に先立つ).

FORMATION:
N + に先立って
N1 + に先立つ + N2

Translation for 'family come before money' can be
お金よりも、先立つ(さきだつ)のは家族だ。

#1084 - サイン会 should properly be 'autographing session' not
'signature session.' Also 'Films opening' should perhaps be 'the first
public release of the Film'

ex#4336 話し合いのもとにするために、was a bit strange. I
changed from 話し合いのもと to 話し合いの糧 kate.

#4332, #4334, #4335 先立つ in these examples means somebody dies earlier
than his parents or spouse. (contributor: Miki)

So Miki, in the case of #4435, should it be better to say, 'She was
preceeded by her only son.'? Sounds like it matches the idea of 先立つ
pretty well. (contributor: rubyhatchet)
